Jessie Morris began her professional journey as a teacher, working across various Regina schools and rural communities in Saskatchewan. Her teaching experience allowed her to engage with diverse populations, fostering a flexible and adaptable approach to education. Jessie's ability to connect with students of all ages and backgrounds laid the foundation for her commitment to community service and advocacy.
Jessie's career in libraries has been marked by a series of impactful leadership roles. She began her library career as a Community Librarian at the Edmonton Public Library, where she built relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal organizations, and developed innovative programs and partnerships to serve the diverse needs of her community.
Shortly after returning to her hometown, Jessie became the first-ever Branch Manager of the Central Library at Regina Public Library. In this role, she led significant changes in service delivery, including the implementation of a one-desk service model, the creation of a Digital Media Studio and the launch of an Instrument Lending Library.
Her experience and development at RPL ultimately led Jessie to the Northern Lights Library System. There, her role as Manager of Member Library Services for most of Northeast Alberta further showcases her ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive strategic initiatives that make tangible differences to local communities.
Jessie's professional journey has always been about serving others. From her beginning as a teacher, to her work in libraries where she has been a staunch ally to marginalized groups, she has been deeply committed to community service. Jessie believes in the power of community and is dedicated to fostering a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect at City Hall, and beyond. Through teamwork and collaboration, she aims to build a Regina where every voice is heard, and every resident has the opportunity to thrive.
